Tips & Tricks

Caring for a dog is one of the most rewarding things that you can do in life. However, there are a few challenges that many pet parents face. We've outlined a few pet care tips that will help you set your pup up for success.
Opt for a Chest Harness or Headcollar

Buckle collars are an important tool for keeping your pet safe and identifiable. However, they are not always the ideal option for walking your dog. In fact, many pet owners find that using a chest harness—especially one with a front clip—or a headcollar is a better option for both themselves and their pets. When you walk your dog with a harness or headcollar, it will be easier for you to control your dog in the event that they see a squirrel, bike, or other object of interest. Walking a dog on a collar, especially one that pulls on the leash can add to issues such as neck trauma over the years from yanking back and forth every time they pull. In addition, having their leash attached to a chest harness or headcollar instead of a traditional collar tends to be much more comfortable for dogs, making walks that much more enjoyable.

Stick to a Schedule

No matter what type of work you do throughout the day, you likely stick to a routine for the morning, afternoon, and evening. Having a predictable schedule offers you a lot of advantages and comforts, and the same is true for pets! Establishing a schedule for your dog's meals, potty breaks, and walks can help to prevent a range of behavioral problems, including begging for food and having accidents in the house. If you are going to be gone for an unusual period of time during the day, consider scheduling a pet care appointment to avoid disrupting your dog's routine.

Set up a Meet & Greet

Are you getting ready to work with a professional pet care provider? Whether you are scheduling dog walking services, overnight pet sitting, or vacation visits, it's a great idea to set up a Meet & Greet with us ahead of time. That way, you can make sure that your pet feels comfortable with the walker or sitter. Setting up a Meet & Greet also allows you to review any specific health or behavioral information with us. When it's time for the first dog walking or pet sitting appointment, your pet will already know your care provider and will be excited, rather than frightened, when he or she arrives at your home.
